Leonard Pope’s All-Star Weekend is ready to kick off on Friday.
The Arizona Cardinals tight end has spent time in Atlanta this week, but will be home in time to start the fun.
The event is hosted by Pope’s not-for-profit organization, the Leonard Pope C.H.A.M.P. (Creating Hope and Making Progress) Foundation, and it will be the kickoff fundraiser for the foundation, which will promote programs for children and family in Americus.
The C.H.A.M.P. (Creating Hope and Making Progress) Foundation promotes programs that enhance the quality of life for children and families by teaching them leadership skills, assisting in community revitalization, educational awareness and providing role models for underprivileged youth.
The weekend is co-organized by EDGE 3M Sports & Entertainment and will feature a fun-filled series of events designed to give kids in the area an opportunity to have fun and meet their favorite NFL Stars.
A celebrity basketball game will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Americus-Sumter’s gymnasium. Tickets are $3 for kids under 18 and $5 for adults.
A Kids Day will be at Boone Park Reservation on Saturday from noon-4 p.m. It will have a cookout, games, inflatables, clowns, NFL autograph sessions, football drill stations and music.
Some NFL players who are expected to attend the event are: Charles Grant (New Orleans), Thomas Davis (Carolina), D.J. Shockley (Atlanta), Danny Ware (N.Y. Giants) and Marcus McNeil (San Diego).
