Arizona Cardinals team report: Kevin Kolb, offense still can improve
Quarterback Kevin Kolb will play into the third quarter of Saturday’s preseason game against the Chargers.
While Kolb has played well this preseason, the offense as a whole has looked sloppy at times.
Kolb has thrown the ball well, but needs to improve from an operational standpoint: getting out of the huddle, making calls at the line, avoiding delay of game penalties.
Kolb also has shown a tendency to lock on receiver Larry Fitzgerald. The return of tight end Todd Heap from a thumb injury should help him avoid that.
Notes: Defensive coordinator Ray Horton showed last week that he has bigger plans for end Darnell Dockett than just using him as a two-gap run stuffer. Dockett dropped into coverage a couple of time on zone blitzes, and he and fellow end Calais Campbell moved inside in some passing situations. Dockett is at his best playing a one-game technique inside, and his power and explosiveness make him hard for guards to handle.
