Spring 2007: Morelli vs. Anthony Morelli
Which Anthony Morelli will we see in the fall, a strong senior coming off a huge Outback Bowl victory
Spring 2008: Clark vs. Devlin
Who will earn the starting job - last year's backup Darryl Clark, a junior from Youngstown, Ohio, or redshirt sophomore Pat Devlin?
Darryl Clark has been waiting for this opportunity for three years, he tells The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "Oh, man. This is a dream. Once I signed on the dotted line to become a Penn State player, the dream is to finally get a chance to run the show."
JayPa sees a lot of similarities between the two contenders, and with both players capable of moving around, the plan is for Penn State to move back to a spread offense in 2008.
"They're both very capable of throwing the football, both really good runners," he said. "The difference would be Clark is more of a power runner and Devlin ... is more like Zack Mills. He can see things and make cuts."
Paterno cautioned that Paul Cianciolo could factor into the picture. But most are expecting Clark and Devlin to be the primary contenders to start.
But quarterback isn't the only roster spot in question. Besides replacing key starters who graduated, Joe Paterno has other decisions to make regarding six players suspended for various off-field incidents. Not to mention, Paterno's own position in the future of the Penn State program is unclear, so he should have his hands full this spring.
